Maha Medical Education Minister assures prompt action on Resident Doctors' pending demands

Mumbai: Amid growing demands from medical professionals for improved working conditions in Maharashtra’s healthcare institutions, a meeting took place between the Hon'ble Minister of Medical Education, Shri Hasan Mushrif and representatives of the Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) at Mantralaya, Mumbai.
National President FAIMA Dr Akshay Dongardive has stated that "A positive discussion was conducted regarding various pending issues of resident doctors across Maharashtra, as well as resident doctors and peripheral senior resident doctors working under the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM).
It was decided to conduct an official meeting to address these matters promptly, and the Hon'ble Minister directed the concerned officials to hold a meeting at the earliest, said the association.
On this occasion, National President FAIMA and Maharashtra MARD advisor Dr Akshay Dongardive, BMC MARD Vice President Dr Ravi Sapkal and former Nair MARD General Secretary Dr Santosh Kurude were present.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the senior resident doctors in Maharashtra have sought the Government's intervention for the regularisation of stipend payments, abolition of stipend disparity across BMC and DMER institutes, and framing official leave guidelines for senior residents. Writing to the Director of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), the doctors under the Maharashtra Senior Resident Doctor Association (MSRDA), which represents more than 5,000 doctors, have threatened to launch a state-wide agitation if their concerns are not addressed urgently.
"We write to you on behalf of the Maharashtra Senior Resident Doctor Association (MSRDA), a representative body of 5000 senior resident doctors in the state, with extreme anguish, frustration, and disbelief at the persistent neglect and apathy shown by DMER and the Government of Maharashtra towards the senior resident doctors—the very backbone of the state’s public healthcare and medical education system," the association mentioned in the letter addressed to the Director of DMER, Maharashtra.
