Man arrested for allegedly running unauthorised care centre in Golconda

Hyderabad: A 23-year-old man was arrested by the Hyderabad Task Force and Golconda police for allegedly impersonating a qualified doctor and treating patients without the required medical qualifications or licence at an unauthorised care centre in Golconda.

According to the news reports, the accused, a resident of Kumarwadi in Dhankota, was arrested during a raid at Hikma Sehath Care Centre in Mohalla Gunj. Police said the centre was being operated with the assistance of his mother and brother, who are currently absconding.

Police said the man had completed Intermediate with CEC subjects between 2018 and 2020 and did not possess any recognised medical qualification. Despite this, he was allegedly treating patients who approached the centre with complaints including sexual health problems, breathing difficulties, chest pain, repeated vomiting, severe body pain, kidney and flank pain, and urinary issues.

According to police, the accused and his family claimed to practise as ancestral hakeems. The accused reportedly began working at Hikma Health Care in 2023 alongside a BUMS-qualified Unani doctor.

The police further alleged that the accused, his mother and brother entered into an arrangement with the doctor under which she was paid Rs 13,000 per month to visit the clinic occasionally.

During the raid, police seized a large quantity of unlabelled medicines and powders, many of which had only marker-written codes. The seized material included 20 one-kg packets of a powder identified as ‘Talbina’ and several other bottles. Police also seized prescription books bearing the name Hikma Health Care, reports the Hindu.

Police also alleged that the centre and its activities were promoted through Facebook, Instagram and promotional content published through SACH News.

According to India Today, a case has been registered for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, acts endangering the life or personal safety of others, along with common intention under the respective sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police are investigating the clinic’s activities and the role of the absconding accused.
