Delhi: Doctors across the nation will observe Swasth Satyagraha, a nationwide response from the country's frontline warriors on National Doctor's Day, July 1, 2021.

The medical practitioners will organize blood donation camps and other awareness programs to join the nationwide movement called by Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) and major other Doctors' Associations of India including Junior Doctor's Association (JDAs) and Resident Doctor's Association (RDAs) to save India's healthcare system, ascertain affordable quality healthcare and ensure workplace safety for all healthcare professionals.

On the occasion, doctors will organize blood donation camps, health camps, vaccine awareness rallies and various healthcare awareness programmes throughout the country to demonstrate unity and commitment to country's healthcare.

Doctors will also hold voluntary fasting and dedicate 3 extra hours of work post duty while wearing black badges or black clothes to register their peaceful protest against incompetent healthcare administration and violence on healthcare workers as a part of their Swasth Satyagraha.
In its recent release, FAIMA said, " We hereby declare our decision to observe Swasth Satyagraha - an united nationwide response from the country's frontline warriors on Doctors' Day to save India's healthcare system, ascertain affordable quality healthcare to all our countrymen and ensure workplace safety for all healthcare professionals."
The association also informed that it will also be submitting a common Memorandum (which will be finalized in consensus with all participating doctors' associations) with the major demands to the ministries and local administrative authorities.
A few of the key demands include improving India's healthcare system by increasing Healthcare Expenditure, urgent creation of the Cadre of Indian Medical Services to adequately tackle 3rd wave, ensuring Central Protection Act to confirm workplace safety for healthcare workers with the Provision to Arrest Offenders and Book Offences against Doctors as Non-Bailable Offence in a Time Bound Manner.
Joining the movement, Resident Doctors' Association of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) said, " It is the responsibility of the doctor community to upgrade the health system of our country as well as to rejoice ourselves amidst the pandemic. In view of upcoming Doctors' day celebration on July 1st JRDA would like to organize events which shows the unity of the doctor community and to show goodwill gesture for the general public and patients."
The doctors' body further stated that it will organize voluntary blood donation by residents in JIPMER blood bank, and medical practitioners will wear black badges the whole day to show zero tolerance of violence against doctors. Moreover, members will also observe 2 minutes of silence for the doctors who lost their life in the COVID battle from the workplaces (11AM — 11.02AM).
Meanwhile, the Resident Doctor Associations of JN Medical College, Aligarh (RDA JNMCH), and All India ESI Doctors' Association also extended their support to FAIMA and decided to observe " Swasth Satyagraha " on the Doctors' Day as well.
The associations stated, " Doctors who are responding to a global health crisis- trying to protect individuals, families and communities in adverse situations with outsized resources would be better reformers of the health care system of our country. It is the responsibility of the doctor community to upgrade the health system of our country In view of upcoming doctors' day celebrations on July 1', We respect and encourage the decision of FAIMA on SWASTH SATHYAGRAHA- A demonstration of our unity and commitment to health care."
