MGM Indore PG Gynaecology medico accuses 4 senior resident doctors of harassment

Indore: A shocking ragging allegation has surfaced at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College, Indore, wherein a first-year postgraduate junior doctor from the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department has accused four senior resident doctors of mental harassment, torture, and threats.
In her complaint to the UGC’s National Anti-Ragging Cell, she said the senior doctors forced her to do excessive night duties, threatened to stop her from being posted in the operating theatre, and spread false rumours about her leave.
She alleged that they created an environment of fear and humiliation for her. Because of this ongoing alleged harassment and torture, she claimed she lost more than 22 kg in the last four months. After being unable to bear the alleged harassment, she went on a long medical leave and is currently under treatment for extreme mental distress caused during her residency.

Her family members in this regard told the college's anti-ragging committee that, "This isn’t about workload, it’s about mental cruelty. She was systematically humiliated, isolated, and pushed beyond her mental limits."
After receiving the email complaint, the college’s anti-ragging committee started an investigation. The committee said it will soon submit its report to the Anti-Ragging Cell and the college administration.
Committee Chairperson Dr Purnima Dey Sarkar told Bhaskar, “We have received the complaint and begun our investigation. The committee will identify the victim and the accused students and record their statements.”
Meanwhile, Dr Nilesh Dalal, Head of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, said, “The Anti-Ragging Committee is handling the matter. Further action will be taken after the investigation is completed.”
The junior doctor also alleged that her seniors posted false messages in an unofficial WhatsApp group, calling her a “liar” and saying that her medical leave was fake. They also allegedly warned her that after she returned, she would be denied OT duties for six months and given additional night duties as punishment.
According to Bhaskar's sources, the doctor’s health worsened due to continuous harassment. She lost over 22 kg in four months and was admitted to MY Hospital for four days. She returned home when her condition deteriorated further.
In another case, Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the authorities of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) filed a police complaint against five MBBS interns for allegedly ragging their juniors from the 2021 and 2023 batches. It was alleged that the seniors often arrived at night in a drunken state, playing loud music that coerced them to dance to popular tunes. On the night of June 29, they claimed that the five accused seniors came to their hostel room in an intoxicated state and demanded that the juniors join them in drinking. Then, they were told to undress and dance.
