Missing from duty: 32 Govt doctors get notices from UP Health department
Gorakhpur: As many as 32 Government doctors are "missing" from duty without any official information in the Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh, with some of them not reporting to work since last year, a senior official said on Wednesday.
The department has been sending notices to them but they have not yet replied and a report in this regard has been sent to the government, Chief Medical Officer Ashutosh Dubey said.
Of the 162 doctors working at community health centres (CHC), rural primary health centres (PHC) and urban PHCs in the district, 32 doctors are missing without any official information, the CMO said.
Notices have been sent to the missing doctors multiple times and a report has been sent to the government, the CMO said. Due to a shortage of doctors, there are difficulties in rural area hospitals.
The CMO added that the missing doctors have neither formally submitted their resignations nor provided any information about their engagement elsewhere.
Medical dialogues team had recently reported that the Andhra Pradesh health department issued show-cause notices to 76 assistant professors and two associate professors working at government medical colleges for being on unauthorised leave for more than a year. The department directed all the 78 professors on the list to submit an explanation for their unauthorised absence within 15 days or face strict disciplinary action. A government order containing names of such professors of different government medical colleges in this regard has come to the fore. The professors who were served the notices had been abstaining from their duty for a minimum of one year and there were one who had not been coming to work for the past seven and a half years.
