Mob Attack: Paediatrician brutally attacked with knife after infant death, IMA condemn assault
Hyderabad: Around 150 doctors from Hyderabad and neighbouring districts participated in a protest launched by the Telangana branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Friday after a paediatrician from Siddartha Children’s Hospital in Peddapalli was allegedly attacked with a knife by family members and relatives of a deceased infant, including a mob of 200 people leading to serious injuries.
According to the association, the doctor was attacked in his chamber in broad daylight and was chased on the main road but the doctor escaped to save his life. One individual among the mob allegedly stabbed the doctor and he suffered four stab wounds due to knife injuries.

As per the Telangana Today news report, the incident took place after the relatives of the seven-month-old baby blamed the doctor for the death of their child. It has been alleged that the infant died from an overdose of medicine. The child was admitted to the hospital a few days ago, however, died unfortunately during treatment. As a result, they stormed the hospital and looted furniture along with attacking the doctor.
Condemning the attack on the doctor, a rally was held by doctors from different parts of the state on Friday where they marched from the IMA office to the government hospital wearing black badges and gathered in solidarity at the hospital. Following this, they submitted representations to the superintendent of police and district collector by demanding strict action against the miscreants involved in the attack.
Dr Vijay Rao Jakkula, secretary general, of IMA Telangana, told TOI, "This attack on Dr Rajesh by a mob of around 200 people and stabbing by an individual is a grave incident that demands serious action. Doctors, like Dr Rajesh, work under immense pressure, often sacrificing their personal lives to provide care and save lives. In this case, the attack was driven by grievances, but no grievance can justify violence. The trust and relationship between doctors and the public must be based on respect and mutual understanding."
The IMA representatives demanded the police take stern action against the accused by registering an attempt to murder case. IMA representatives said there was no security for the doctors and attacks on medicos are on the rise.
