Moga doctor shooting case: FIR against Canada-based Terrorist

Ludhiana: In a shocking incident in Punjab's Moga district, a doctor was shot in the chest by two men posing as patients at his private nursing home, the police have named designated terrorist Lakhbir Singh, alias Landa Harike, of the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), in the First Information Report (FIR) as the mastermind behind the murder attempt. One of his associates has also been arrested for allegedly supplying weapons to the shooters.
Last year, the Home Ministry designated Lakhbir Singh Landa, a 33-year-old Canada-based gangster, as a terrorist under the stringent anti-terror law, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Landa was involved in a rocket attack on the Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters in Mohali in 2021, among other terrorist activities, according to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). He fled to Canada in 2017.

According to Moga police, Lakhbir Singh, alias Landa, is suspected to be behind the shooting incident. He is believed to have sent the shooters to Dr Aniljit Kamboj's nursing home, where they posed as patients during the consultation before opening fire. Media reports suggest that Landa is currently hiding in Canada.
Medical Dialogues had reported that two unidentified miscreants posing as patients reportedly shot a doctor in his chest at a private nursing home in the Kot Ise Khan town of Punjab’s Moga district. The doctor received two bullets and suffered serious injuries.
The miscreants pretending to be patients entered the Harbans Nursing Home run by the doctor and sought treatment from him. While he was attending to one of them and discussing medicines, the second man, who was standing behind at the time, opened fire and shot the doctor with two bullets.
Out of them, one bullet exited, and the other one hit him in his chest. He continues to be in critical condition and is on ventilator support at a private hospital.
Dr Aniljit Kamboj has been under security cover provided by the Moga police since 2022. However, they recently withdrew the security cover after receiving no threats. The cover was given after the doctor in 2022 received extortion calls from Canada-based designated terrorist Lakhbir Singh Landa, who demanded Rs 1 crore from him. They threatened that if he failed to give the money, his life would be in danger.
Dharamkot DSP Ramandeep Singh at a press conference told the Indian Express, "Landa has been nominated as an accused in the FIR registered at the Kot Ise Khan police station for attempt to murder. Another associate of Landa, identified as Harmeet Singh, alias Meetu, 25, of Talwandi Shobha Singh village in Tarn Taran district, has been arrested in the case for allegedly supplying weapons to Landa’s shooters, who would fire at targets selected by him."
