Mohali: Doctor booked for allegedly raping mentally challenged elderly woman
Mohali: A doctor has been booked under Section 376 of the IPC for allegedly raping an elderly woman suffering from mental issues when he was intoxicated. The incident took place on Tuesday night at the doctor's clinic in Handesara village.
The accused has been identified as Dr Shubhankar Vishwas. The case was first encountered by Investigating Officer (IO) Parveen Kaur and his friends.
At night around 9:30 pm on May 10, when Parveen left the house to get some fresh air after having dinner and went to the Baljeet Chand shop, he heard screams of a woman coming from the clinic. Without thinking twice, Parveen went to the clinic with his friends Parminder and Jaswinder.

As per The Tribune reports, after they reached the spot, they saw that the door was locked from the inside. After repetitive knocking on the door, the doctor responded by opening the door and they saw that an elderly woman was lying in the room. She claimed of been raped by the doctor. The doctor was in an intoxicated state after getting caught he fled the scene.
Parveen and his friends then took the woman to the village sarpanch's house and asked her to stay there until they find her family members.
A case has been registered by the IO against the doctor at the Handesra police station. The IO said that investigations are underway to nab the doctor. The doctor will be caught up soon. He also informed that they are trying to find the victim's family members.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that an FIR was lodged against a sweeper for allegedly rapping a female patient in the washroom of the divisional hospital of Mirzapur district. She was suffering from stomach aches and was admitted to the divisional hospital on May 7. On the same day at night between 9 pm and 10 pm she went to the washroom of the hospital and was rapped by the sweeper while she was changing her clothes.
