MP: Government medical colleges face shortage of faculty
Bhopal: The majority of the new government medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh are reeling under a shortage of professors, associate professors and other teachers.
MP Medical Teachers Association media in-charge Dr Sumit Rawat said, "State government should focus on strengthening faculties in new medical colleges having 150-200 MBBS seats. They do not have professors. AIIMS, Bhopal, has three to four professors in each department to teach 100 MBBS students. National Medical Council had pointed out 30% paucity of teachers in previous inspections."

At the Birsa Munda Medical College, the General Medicine Department, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and the Department of Pathology have no professors, and the Department of TB & Chest, Department of Pediatrics, Department of Dermatology, Department of Psychiatry and Department of Dentistry have no professors and assistant professors.
At the Satna Medical College, there are no professors and assistant professors in the Department of Anatomy, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department of Orthopedics, and no associate professor as well in the Department of Physiology. They have also not conducted any recruitments in the departments of anesthesia, burns and plastic surgery, cardiology, general medicines, neurology, nephrology.
Similarly, there are shortage of professors, assistant professors and associate professors at the Datia Medical College, Bundelkhand Medical College in Sagar, reports the Free Press Journal.
Colleges without professors are reported to have a 7% shortage of teaching staff, those without associate professors have a shortage of 3% to 4%, and those without assistant professors are said to have a 2% shortage.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College where the Head of departments (HoDs) of eight of its departments were replaced with those who were second in the list of seniority. The Medical Education Department instructed the concerned authorities to implement the new system of a two-year roster for the HoDs of different departments.
