Mumbai Doctor accuses bar owner of rape charges on pretext of marriage, files complaint

Mumbai: A South Mumbai-based doctor has allegedly accused a Colaba Bar owner of blackmailing and raping her on the pretext of marriage on multiple occasions. The owner has been booked by the police.

The complainant is a 42-year-old assistant homoeopathy doctor, and the accused has been identified as 43-year-old Dinesh.

The doctor claimed that Dinesh was in a sexual relationship with her. They met in January 2011 in a gym and started to develop a relationship after Dinesh said that he was a divorcee. However, the doctor came to know in 2013 that Dinesh had faked his divorce. After she confronted him, he started to blackmail her with her photos with him and forced her to continue her relationship with him.

According to a police officer, it was revealed that Dinesh abused and assaulted her and borrowed money during the lockdown, which he failed to return later.

Later, the doctor decided to report the matter to the police station. A case was registered against Dinesh for allegedly raping her under the pretext of marriage at her home and in several hotels in south-Mumbai.

After he was produced in the sessions court, a provisional order of protection from arrest was granted by the court and asked to co-operate with investigators.

In response to the allegations, Dinesh filed a case against the doctor in May at Colaba police station. While speaking with HT, he said the doctor threatened to have him charged with rape unless the case was dropped.

"She had made several fake accounts and forwarded our photos to several of my relatives. She not only stopped at that but also posted some of our photos on the social media page of my daughter's school. I had always told her that I was married and would never marry her. She later started forcing me to marry her and creating ruckus outside my house," he added.
