Mumbai Doctor cheated of Rs 2.71 lakh by cyber fraudster posing as Army official
Mumbai: In another case of cyber fraud, a man impersonating a fake Army official had duped a female doctor of Rs 2.71 lakh on the pretext of making payments for a blood test to be conducted for 25 people.
According to the police, the doctor aged 48 has a healthcare centre at Oshiwara and was contacted by the fraudster posing as an army official seeking blood tests for 25 people.
The army official contacted the doctor on August 3 at 3:30 pm asking her whether she conducts a blood test and wanted to get a blood test for 25 people. Without thinking twice, the doctor agreed to the request and said that each test would cost Rs 2500.

In order to make the payments, the official asked for the bank details of the doctor. The accused also made a video call to the doctor wearing an army uniform to avoid any suspicion. After the doctor gave her bank details, she received notification of Rs 2.71 lakh debited from her account. Later she tried to contact him but to no avail, Free Press Journal reports.
She then went to the Versova police and lodged her complaint against the accused. The police are investigating the matter.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about similar cases where a 36-year-old doctor had been duped for Rs 1 lakh by an online fraudster who posed as a CRPF soldier.

The incident took place when the doctor had received a WhatsApp call on his mobile phone from the fraudster, who identified himself as Satish Kumar, an Army soldier posted at CRPF in the city. He asked about the doctor's availability as he will send Army soldiers to get treatment at his clinic. In order to come across as a legit Army person, the fraudster video called the doctor along with another man dressed in an Army uniform. The doctor was promised online advance payments by the fraudster.
