Mumbai shocker: KEM Hospital doctor stabbed by colleague's brother

Doctor Stabbed
Mumbai: In a chilling incident, a doctor working at Mumbai's King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital sustained critical injuries after allegedly being brutally stabbed by the brother of a female colleague. The accused reportedly entered the hospital in rage and attacked the doctor with a knife.
Following the attack, the doctor was immediately admitted to the same hospital and is currently undergoing treatment. He is reported to be in stable condition, but the doctors are monitoring him closely.
According to the police’s preliminary investigation, the attack stemmed from a personal rivalry. They suspect that the accused was unhappy and upset about his sister’s relationship with the doctor, and had previously objected to it before allegedly committing the crime.

As per News 18 news report, the attack took place in front of patients, their attendants, and hospital staff, causing panic and chaos inside the hospital. The accused, along with two others, allegedly entered the hospital, stabbed the doctor and fled the scene before security personnel could intervene.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the hospital’s security arrangements. The police have registered a case of attempted murder and have launched a search operation to track down the accused trio.
The horrifying incident comes at a time when doctors across the country are demanding better security at government medical colleges and hospitals due to the rising cases of violence and attacks against medical professionals.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the Indian Medical Association (IMA), New Delhi, has introduced a new national reporting system to ensure that no violence against doctors' cases goes unnoticed. The new system is a Google Form where doctors from any part of India can report incidents of assault or abuse that happened to them or towards any other doctor.
