Muzaffarnagar orthopaedic surgeon, residents protest outside Former Union Minister's residence over alleged assault

Agra: Tension prevailed in Muzaffarnagar on Monday after an orthopaedic surgeon and several residents staged a protest outside the residence of a former Union Minister, alleging that the doctor’s brother was assaulted by security personnel following an altercation.

According to the orthopaedic surgeon's brother, the incident occurred when he briefly stopped his car on an internal road in A2Z Colony to answer a phone call while on his way to his sister’s residence. He alleged that security personnel deployed at the former Union Minister’s residence confronted him, verbally abused him, and assaulted him with sticks. He further claimed that he sustained injuries to his hand and that his vehicle was vandalised during the incident.

The alleged assault drew several residents to gather at the scene, with many later joining a sit-in protest outside the former Union Minister’s residence. The protesters accused the security personnel of intimidating local residents and demanded action against those responsible.

The doctor linked the alleged assault to his earlier complaints filed through the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s grievance portal. He claimed to have raised concerns regarding the alleged encroachment of a public park in the colony by the residence associated with the former Union minister and suggested that the incident may have been connected to those complaints.

Responding to the allegations, the doctor’s brother said the residence had been constructed after obtaining approval from the Muzaffarnagar Development Authority (MDA). “If there is even an inch of encroachment, I will request the authorities to bring in a bulldozer and demolish it,” he said, reports TOI.

The former Union minister also denied the assault allegations and offered a different account of the incident. He alleged that the doctor and his brother, whom he described as supporters of the Samajwadi Party, had burst firecrackers outside his residence following the resignation of the former education minister. According to the Minister, his security personnel merely objected to the act, after which the brothers allegedly created a disturbance.

Police from Nai Mandi police station reached the spot, pacified the protesters and began an inquiry. Muzaffarnagar police said, “Based on the written complaint received at Nai Mandi police station, an impartial investigation is underway. Action will be taken based on the findings,” reports TOI.
