Sassoon Hospital doctor allegedly attacked after asking patient's kin not to record CPR

Pune: A doctor at the government-run Sassoon General Hospital in Pune was allegedly assaulted by a patient's relative in the emergency ward while he was performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the critically ill patient.
Based on the complaint filed by the doctor, the Bund Garden police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
According to police, the incident took place around 10:40 am on Sunday, when the critically ill patient was brought to the Sassoon General Hospital by family members for emergency treatment.
After examining the patient, the doctor immediately began administering CPR in an effort to revive the patient. During the emergency procedure, one of the patient's relatives reportedly started recording a video of the procedure on his mobile phone.
According to reports, the doctor, who is pursuing postgraduate medical training at the hospital, reportedly asked the relative to stop filming the procedure. According to the complaint, the relative then allegedly turned angry and assaulted the doctor.

Following the incident, the doctor approached the Bund Garden police station and lodged a formal complaint. Police registered a case later the same afternoon and have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Incidents involving alleged assaults, intimidation or interference with healthcare professionals while they are on duty have repeatedly raised concerns over the safety of doctors, particularly those working in emergency departments where timely medical intervention is critical.
According to The Times of India, “The relative allegedly began abusing him, leading to an argument. He then charged at the doctor, threatened him with dire consequences, and fled the hospital,'' he added.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
