Nagaon Medical College forensic medicine professor suspended after arrest in bribery case

Doctor Suspended
Guwahati: A professor in the Department of Forensic Medicine at Nagaon Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) has been suspended by the Assam government following his arrest in an alleged bribery case involving the alteration of a post-mortem report.
According to officials, the doctor was allegedly caught accepting money from the family of a deceased person in exchange for altering details in the post-mortem report. The action was reportedly taken following directions from the Nagaon district administration.
Speaking to India Today NE, officials said that the forensic professor allegedly demanded and accepted money from the family of a deceased person to manipulate the post-mortem report. He was caught red-handed while accepting the alleged bribe.
Following his arrest, the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) issued an order placing the doctor under suspension with immediate effect. The suspension will remain in force pending the completion of the ongoing investigation and departmental proceedings.
The alleged incident has raised concerns over the integrity of medico-legal procedures, as post-mortem reports play a crucial role in criminal investigations and the administration of justice.
The incident comes amid other recent concerns involving medico-legal procedures. Earlier, doctors at the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) were under scrutiny for allegedly failing to conduct a post-mortem examination on a Class IX tribal student who died at the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in Bhubaneswar.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that Doctors at the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) are under scrutiny for allegedly failing to conduct a post-mortem on a Class IX tribal student who died at the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in Bhubaneswar. The police investigating the case are expected to question the doctors soon, suspecting possible procedural lapses and an attempt to cover up the circumstances surrounding the student's death.
