No private practice during OPD hours: Tripura Govt Issues New Guidelines

Tripura’s Health Officers to Follow New Private Practice Norms
Agartala: In a move aimed at regulating private practice by medical officers under the Tripura Health Services (THS), the Governor of Tripura has approved a set of new directives. These guidelines specifically apply to medical officers who have opted for private practice in lieu of receiving the Non-Practising Allowance (NPA).
These new guidelines are issued in accordance with several earlier government notifications and the Tripura Health Service Rules, 1974, along with their subsequent amendments.

Key Guidelines for Private Practice
According to the new notification, the Health & Family Welfare Department has outlined clear conditions that THS medical officers must adhere to when engaging in private practice.
No private practice during OPD hours: The new guidelines make it clear that medical officers are strictly prohibited from engaging in any private practice during Out-Patient Department (OPD) hours on working days.
No private practice on government premises: The new rules also state that medical officers cannot conduct private medical practice within any government-owned premises, including government quarters or accommodations.
Restriction on practice location: The new rules further stipulate that private practice must be confined to within 8 kilometres of the officer’s headquarters or place of official posting. This limitation is designed to ensure that medical officers remain accessible to their assigned healthcare institutions.
As per the new notification, the Health & Family Welfare Department has made it clear that these guidelines must be adhered to without exception. Any violation of the stipulated rules will attract disciplinary action under applicable service regulations, reports the Tripura Info.
The department has called on all medical officers under THS to uphold the highest standards of conduct and professionalism while adhering to the new terms.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that in a major push to strengthen the state's healthcare infrastructure, the Tripura government is planning to introduce superspeciality courses at Agartala Government Medical College.
