'Not suitable' tag on qualified candidates! UP Panel flags irregularities in KGMU doctor recruitment

Lucknow: A joint committee of the Uttar Pradesh legislature has found major irregularities in the doctor recruitment process at the King George's Medical University (KGMU).
The probe in this connection was prompted by the allegations of a scam. It has now been revealed that even though there were 108 reserved positions, including a backlog, only 30 positions were filled and many qualified candidates from top medical institutes such as Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute (SGPGI) were deemed as "Not Found Suitable".
As per the latest media report by the Free Press Journal, this development comes after an inquiry was ordered by Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak in this connection. The inquiry revealed a failure to adhere to reservation policies, and the allegations suggested that the appointments were rushed through overnight, disregarding the findings of the investigation and favouring non-reserved candidates. However, the officials at King George's Medical University have maintained that all the rules were followed.
Now, the committee is demanding interview recordings and other documents from the KGMU administration to investigate claims of a massive scam. In response, the University has decided to seek permission from the governor's office before releasing the information.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that back in 2021, the Vice-Chancellor of King George's Medical University (KGMU) had been issued a notice by Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta seeking to reply on the alleged anomalies in the recruitment of doctors in the plastic surgery department and purchase of corona testing kits and RT-PCR kits by the medical university.
Back then, the action was taken in response to a complaint made by social activist Srikant Singh against the University to the Lokayukta. The complainant had alleged that the MCH candidate with the highest degree in plastic surgery was not selected for the post. While MBBS, DNB doctor from a private college in Nepal was appointed.
