Odisha: Allegedly delay in treatment, case filed against doctor and IGH Staff
Rourkela: A police case has been registered against the doctor on duty and the paramedics of the RSP-run Ispat General Hospital (IGH) for allegedly delaying the treatment of a road accident-based victim till the treatment cost was deposited at the hospital.
As per a media report in The New Indian Express, the case was registered against the accused around two days back at the Sector-19 police station by a person identified as 45-year-old Neeraj Chaturvedi. Chaturvedi had taken the accident victim to the hospital.

The incident took place on April 21 when Neeraj rescued the severely injured person identified as Sheikh Basir, after a road accident near the Pantha Niwas region. He was reportedly asked to pay an amount of Rs 5000 in advance at IGH for the cost related to treatment. The complainant said that the doctors refused to provide treatment to the accident victim until the money was deposited by him.
The accident victim was put on a stretcher and was not given the treatment until his friend came there with the money, said the complainant Neeraj. Further, after Neeraj left, the daughter and the spouse of the accident victim reached the hospital. They were also asked to deposit additional money for further treatment.
Chaturvedi eventually talked about the experience on the social media platform, Twitter. The Public Relations team of the RSP denied the allegations about delaying treatment or refusing treatment for money.
The Additional SP SK Behera said that a case of extortion has been registered against the doctor and the employees of the Ispat General Hospital. Behera added that an investigation is presently underway. Sundargarh Collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan said the administration would make sure that such incidents do not occur in any hospitals including private hospitals and IGH, reports TNIE.
