Odisha AYUSH doctor detained after minor alleges sexual assault during check-up

Odisha: An AYUSH doctor in Odisha's Ganjam district has been detained by police after a 14-year-old girl allegedly accused him of sexual assault during a medical examination at a private clinic. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation, with further action to be taken based on the findings of the probe.
According to the news reports, the incident came to light after the girl's mother lodged a complaint at the Jagannathprasad Police Station. Based on the complaint, police detained the doctor for questioning and began collecting evidence. Investigators are also recording statements as part of the ongoing investigation.
The complaint stated that the girl had visited the clinic with her mother for a health check-up on Sunday evening. The doctor reportedly informed the mother that a gynaecological examination was required and took the minor to a separate room.
About 30 minutes later, the girl came out in tears and informed her mother that she had allegedly been sexually assaulted during the examination. She further alleged that the doctor threatened her with consequences if she disclosed the incident.
Police have not disclosed further details, stating that the investigation is at a preliminary stage. Medical examinations and other legal procedures are being carried out as part of the probe. Authorities have urged that the investigation be allowed to proceed before any conclusions are drawn.
According to The New Indian Express, Ganjam SP Harisha BC confirmed the rape allegation and detention of the AYUSH doctor, but refused to divulge any further details, stating that the investigation is at a preliminary stage. He said appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
Local residents expressed concern over the incident, while police continued collecting evidence. The report also quoted a neighbour claiming that the accused had admitted to "making a mistake" before police. However, the police have not officially confirmed this claim, reports Odisha TV.
