Odisha: Chargesheet filed against 7 doctors of SCB Medical College in lawyer assault case
Cuttack: A charge sheet has been filed against seven doctors associated with the SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack for allegedly assaulting a lawyer last year, in the month of October, informed the assistant commissioner of police (ACP) in charge of the Manglabag police station, Cuttack to the advocate general.
The charge sheet was filed after the Odisha High Court passed an order in the case involving the assault of the lawyer Sapan Kumar Pal at Cuttack SCB. They have been filed following the completion of the investigation against the doctors for assaulting the advocate.

The Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra told the High Court that the charge sheet have been filed against the seven doctors in the lower court on the basis of CCTV footage.
They have been booked under sections 341, 323,506 (Criminal intimidation), and 294 of the Indian Penal Code. The accused doctors would now be facing trial as per the legal procedure.
According to a media report in the Odisha TV, the lawyer had visited the hospital in October last year for the treatment of his relative. However, he was reported to have been attacked on the 21st of October by a group of doctors in the neurology department following which a case was registered at the Manglabag police station. As per a media report in the Times of India, they allegedly beat him up and confined him to a room after he questioned them about disorganization in the hospital and complained of negligence shown towards the patients.
However, citing slow progress in the case, the advocate had moved to the Orissa High Court. The court took serious note of this and issued notices to DCP and Manglabag police.
Responding to the court, the DCP and Manglabag police said that the SCB authorities claimed that they did not have CCTV footage of the incident. The court had then eventually instructed the DCP to investigate the case and submit a report.
Following the completion of the probe, the DCP told the court that charge sheets have been filed against seven doctors under Sections 341, 323, 506 (Criminal intimidation), 294 of IPC.
