Odisha doctor accused of issuing incorrect death report without conducting post-mortem

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) has accused a doctor from a private medical college of issuing a wrong death report in the case of a Class IX tribal student who died at the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in Bhubaneswar.
OSCPCR chairperson Babita Patra said the commission has written to the state government demanding strict action against the doctor who certified the cause of death.
She questioned how the student’s body was shifted without a post-mortem and said the doctor should be brought under investigation. Patra also claimed that the local police station was not informed about the incident at the time.

This comes after a 14-year-old student was allegedly strangulated by three fellow inmates in the intervening night of December 11 and 12 over a petty issue. Three students and eight KISS employees and staff members have been suspended in this regard, reports TNIE.
Following this, the doctor's role has been dragged into the case after the OSCPCR found that the doctor did not conduct a post-mortem of the child's body. Without examining the body, the commission alleged that the doctor had issued an incorrect death report.
Medical Dialogues had recently reported that a total of 17 individuals, including two Pune-based doctors associated with a private laboratory, have been booked by the Karad city police after it was found that the lab was issuing diagnostic reports signed by a pathologist, even though no tests were ever conducted or supervised.
The FIR was filed by Dr Yadav, a 52-year-old qualified pathologist, who had been running a Pathology Laboratory in Karad since 2006. After discovering that a private laboratory was involved in duping patients, Dr Yadav filed a complaint in this regard.
