Odisha doctor death case: Post-mortem report indicates poisoning
Keonjhar: Police have launched a probe into the unfortunate death of the lady doctor whose body was found inside her locked room in Odisha's Keonjhar district, the post-mortem report revealed that she might have died due to poisoning.
According to the report, a poisonous substance was found inside her stomach which indicates that she died after consuming the harmful substance. However, the police yet cannot conclude the case as a suicide due to the absence of solid evidence.
In response to this, the district health department informed Pragativadi that the police have seized the poison bottle and will be sent to State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) in Bhubaneswar for further testing.
A clear picture of the woman doctor’s death will emerge after the submission of the forensic laboratory report.
On the other hand, the Joda police discovered a shocking turn while investigating her death case the doctor 10 days before her death lodged a complaint with the Joda police against a male colleague, also a doctor, for having physical relations with her on the promise of marriage. She had lodged the complaint with police on December 21, police said.
In her complaint, she mentioned that she came in contact with her male colleague, six years ago. He allegedly established physical intimacy with her at her residence here on September 18 and October 10 of last year on the pretext of marrying her, she wrote in the complaint.
However, she lodged a police complaint after the man allegedly refused to marry her.
Following the release of the post-mortem report, the police revealed that they were informed of the presence of the bottle by a doctor posted in Joda.
Speaking more about the matter, Keonjhar Chief District Medical Officer, Dr Kishore Kumar Prusty said “The local SDPO apprised me about the presence of a bottle with some white powder inside it. It might be a case of poisoning/suicide, however, nothing can be confirmed at the moment, till the autopsy reports come. The white powder bottle will be sent to Bhubaneswar for forensic examination,” Dr Prusty said.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported the incident that a woman doctor posted at the Baneikala primary health centre in the Joda area was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside her rented room.

Returning home after the new year celebration, a lady doctor was found dead in Joda of Odisha’s Keonjhar district.
The deceased was a doctor at the Baneikala primary health centre in Joda and use to live in a rented room on the first floor of the health centre.
As she wanted to celebrate the new year with her friends, she took leave from work and went out. After celebrating the night, she returned late at night.
It is unclear whether she committed suicide or was murdered since the reason behind her death was unknown. However, police have started an investigation into the case and the exact cause will be determined based on the lab report.
Joda police have registered an unnatural death case in this connection and launched a probe. The police have seized the doctor’s mobile phone, medicines and some document from the room.
Meanwhile, the deceased doctor’s father Manoranjan Kar and other family members said they would be waiting for the police investigation and post-mortem report.
