On-duty paediatrician attacked by infant's kin at Gandhi Medical College, case registered
Bhopal: In yet another incident of violence against medical professionals, a 26-year-old junior paediatrician became subject to physical assault by the kin of an infant who was admitted to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) at Hamidia Hospital.
According to the police, the attendant allegedly barged into the SNCU, created a ruckus over alleged negligence in the treatment of the child and physically assaulted the doctor. The doctor is working as a junior doctor in the paediatric department of Gandhi Medical College.
In response to the incident, a case has been registered by the police against the attendant for assaulting the doctor under various relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The incident took place on August 8 at around 3 pm when the junior doctor came to the SNCU ward of Hamidia Hospital for duty. While the doctor was busy attending to patients, an emergency case of an infant emerged at the hospital. The infant girl was in critical condition when she was brought to the Hamidia Hospital by her family members after being referred from a private hospital in Hanumanganj.
Observing her condition, the doctor admitted the girl to the SNCU ward of the hospital. During the admission, the ward boy stopped the infant girl’s family members outside the SNCU ward and allowed only one attendant with the girl.
In the course of treating the infant, the doctor was suddenly assaulted by the attendant who barged into the SNCU ward alleging that the doctor was negligent in treating the infant, TOI reports.
Following this, the nurses and hospital staff tried to stop the attendant but failed. Later, the attendant took the infant and discharged her from the hospital. He took her to another hospital for treatment.
Later the doctor approached Koh-e-Fiza police and lodged a complaint against the attendant. Further investigation into the case is underway.
