Paediatrician booked after 6-month-old allegedly given expired injection dies

Hyderabad: A case of alleged medical negligence has been registered against a paediatrician following the death of a six-month-old infant who was reportedly administered an expired injection at a private hospital in Bandlaguda Jagir, under the Rajendranagar police limits.
The incident took place when an infant was brought by his parents to Crayons Hospital, located in Sun City, after he developed a mild fever for the past two days. The infant later died at the facility.
The Hindu reported that after the complaint of the deceased father, the police filed a complaint against the owner and the person in charge of the hospital. In the preliminary investigation, it was found that the injection administered to the infant had expired on January 19, 2026.
India Today reported that the incident triggered public outrage in the locality, with residents demanding accountability from the hospital management. The family alleged that the infant was stable before treatment and that his condition deteriorated only after the medication was administered. They blamed the hospital staff for negligence and called for strict action and a transparent inquiry.
M. Muthu Yadav, Rajendranagar Inspector, said police have met with the district medical officer in relation to the ongoing investigation, and intial detail are verified. Further investigation is underway.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported a similar case of alleged medical negligence against a private hospital in Nagapattinam following the death of a 16-year-old who passed away while undergoing treatment. According to the news reports, the deceased, a Class XI student, was admitted to the private hospital following complaints of severe abdominal pain. Despite medical intervention, he passed away during treatment.
Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased patient’s father, the police have registered a case and launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death.
