Patna doctor alleges Rs 2 crore extortion over threat of false rape case
Patna: A doctor from Patna's Rajeev Nagar has alleged that nearly Rs 2 crore was extorted from him over a period of two years after he was allegedly threatened with being implicated in a false rape case.
A complaint was registered at Rajeev Nagar police station on August 8 based on a statement given by the doctor's wife. She alleged that a woman from Muzaffarpur repeatedly demanded money from her husband and threatened to harm him and his family if he refused to pay.
According to the complaint, the doctor had first come in contact with the woman and her husband in 2024, with their communication later continuing through WhatsApp. The woman initially allegedly sought Rs 20,000 citing her mother's medical treatment and subsequently received larger amounts on different pretexts.
The complaint further alleged that the doctor later provided another Rs 10 lakh after being told that the woman planned to start a coaching centre in Muzaffarpur. When he subsequently refused further payments, he was allegedly threatened with being implicated in a rape case and warned that he could lose his job and reputation.
According to a Patna Press report, the woman allegedly threatened to implicate him in a rape case, claiming that she had a “selfie photo” that could be used against him. She allegedly warned that he could be jailed and lose both his job and reputation. The complaint also alleges that the doctor was threatened with death.
The woman allegedly later asked the doctor to sign a legal declaration stating that he would not seek repayment of the money he had already given her and that she would not demand further money.
The complaint further stated that the doctor was called to Muzaffarpur in November 2025, where he was allegedly threatened and asked to sign a declaration concerning the money already paid. A declaration prepared at the Muzaffarpur court premises on December 18, 2025, reportedly recorded payments of Rs 1,32,64,960 up to that point.
Despite this, the alleged demands reportedly continued. The doctor's wife further claimed that he later borrowed money through loans, his provident fund, and from relatives and friends, and paid around Rs 58 lakh more.
On July 5, 2026, the woman allegedly sent a WhatsApp message demanding another Rs 10 lakh, describing it as the final payment. The complaint states that the family attempted to arrange the amount, but the alleged demands did not stop.
The doctor's wife subsequently approached the police, alleging continued blackmail and threats. The complaint names the woman, her husband and another person, with police examining their alleged roles.
According to The Daily, frustrated by the repeated demands, the doctor’s wife approached Rajeev Nagar police and filed a complaint against the woman, her husband and another alleged associate. She alleged that the accused were operating an organised group that targeted people and blackmailed them by threatening to implicate them in criminal cases.
