Patna: In a mysterious incident, a 36-year-old woman, the wife of a Patna-based surgeon, was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her residence in Buddha Colony on Thursday. The incident has raised suspicion of foul play, with her family alleging that she was murdered and did not die by suicide.

According to a latest media report by TOI, the woman was found hanging from a dupatta inside a room of her house. But her family - her doctor husband and in-laws, instead of calling the police, allegedly rushed her body to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for a post-mortem without informing the police.

Police also suspect that foul play was involved in her death, as her husband and his family did not wait for the police before taking the body for a post-mortem and immediately vanished after the police were informed. Moreover, the forensic team found injury marks on her neck and seized the dupatta suspected to have been used for strangulation.

The mother of the deceased accused them of stalling time for two hours by pretending to save her instead of informing the police. They did not immediately rush her to a hospital so that doctors could attempt to save her, but they reportedly wasted time pretending to save her in their house.

By the time the authorities were notified, the doctor had reportedly vanished along with the couple’s three young sons, aged 11, 9, and 7. A murder case has now been registered against the doctor and two of his family members, based on a complaint from the deceased's brother.

The mother said she received a call from her son-in-law’s family saying her daughter had committed suicide. However, her family alleged that the in-laws stalled them for two hours, claiming they were trying to save her, during which they couldn’t even call the police. She also accused her husband of having affairs.

The woman was first taken to Udan Hospital and later to PMCH, where she was declared dead. The body was handed over to the family after a postmortem at PMCH.

According to police, her family alleged she was strangled with a dupatta and then hanged to make it look like a suicide, allegedly over her husband's extramarital affairs. They alleged that their daughter was mentally strong, happy and full of life and that she would never take her own life. Her mother told TOI that her daughter had long endured abuse over her husband's relationships with other women.

Her sister said she had spoken to her through a video call just hours before her death. “She was cheerful and excited about her upcoming birthday on July 20. There was no sign of stress,” the sister said.

"But just two hours later, we received a phone call from her husband, who claimed she had hanged herself. For two hours, they kept misleading us, first saying she was being taken to a private hospital, then to PMCH. By the time we knew the truth, she had already been declared dead," she added.

According to the sister, the doctor and her sister had fought before the woman died. Therefore, the sister allegedly claimed that her brother-in-law killed her sister, reports Bhaskar.

The duo got married in 2012, and the doctor is posted at the National Hospital in Begusarai. The woman was originally from Nawada. Both have three small children. One is 11 years old, the second is 9 years old, and the third is 7 years old.

After receiving information about the incident around 10:45 PM on Thursday, officers from Kotwali and Buddha Colony police stations, along with SDPO Krishna Murari Prasad, reached the residence in Buddha Colony. The Buddha Colony station officer confirmed that the woman’s body was kept at PMCH for post-mortem and stated that a detailed investigation into the matter is currently underway.
