PG doctor allegedly harassed, stalked at Mayo Hospital Hostel

Accused arrested
Nagpur: In a shocking incident, a 28-year-old postgraduate doctor at Mayo Hospital was allegedly harassed after a fruit shop owner reportedly stalked her on campus at night and attempted to enter her hostel room.
The accused was caught red-handed by fellow PG residents and security guards after the doctor raised an alarm when he aggressively knocked on her door and attempted to break in. The residents cornered him and handed him over to the police, leading to his arrest.

As per the TOI media report, the incident occurred on Wednesday, around 9:30 pm, when the doctor and her colleague were returning from dinner and noticed the accused loitering near the hostel on his two-wheeler. They saw him staring at them, and when confronted, he quietly left.
Moments later, the man reportedly returned and followed the doctor into the hostel premises, located her room, and began knocking on her door around 10 pm. Shocked and frightened, the doctor did not open the door and immediately called for help.
Hearing her cries, fellow PG residents and the watchman rushed to the spot. They managed to chase and corner the accused near the hostel entrance around 11 pm. The Tehsil police arrived shortly and took him into custody by 12:30 am.
The doctor later filed a formal complaint against him at 2:31 am under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to molestation. Police confirmed that the accused had no prior criminal record.
However, during questioning, the accused denied the charges, claiming he was just a “visitor” at the hospital asking for directions.
"Why venture deep inside the campus at night, bypassing main entrances and heading toward the PG hostels? We are analysing CCTV footage to establish his movements," said senior inspector Shubhangi Deshmukh of Tehsil police station.
The incident triggered a panic among female doctors on the hostel campus who are currently feeling threatened. The matter has also raised serious questions about the security arrangements at the hospital.
