PG Medico Suicide Case: Telangana HC takes up incident as PIL, issues notices
Hyderabad: A week after the prime accused in the Warangal Post graduate medico suicide case of Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) was granted bail, the Telangana High Court (Telangana has issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Commissioner of Police, Warangal, and others after a petitioner sought a CBI probe into the medico's death.
The court has taken the medico's death case to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and asked the notified members to provide an explanation by July 28 in connection with her case.
A division bench of Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji was hearing PIL based on the letter addressed by M. Mallaiah, President, Scheduled Tribes Employees Welfare Association, BHEL Ramachandrapuram seeking a CBI probe into her death case.

The petitioner said the deceased, a first-year student of MD Anaesthesia at Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal died due to ragging and harassment by the main accused and his friends. He said they mocked and ridiculed the deceased for her caste, reports TNIE.
He said she was a Scheduled Tribe candidate and she was subjected to ragging. He alleged that she died after the main accused and his friends forcibly injected poisonous injections into her body on February 26.
The petitioner decided to write the letter after the main accused was released on conditional bail granted by the state session court on April 19. He highlighted that the parents of the deceased gave a complaint to the police and other officials but all their efforts to get the culprits went in vain
The petitioner sought a direction from the police to register a case under section 302 of IPC against crime against the accused and his associates. He also sought a CBI probe into the death of the medico and compensation to the parents of the deceased.
Following this, the High Court issued notices to the Chief Secretary; Principal Secretary, Medical and Health Department; Director of Medical Education; Commissioner of Police, Warangal; Principal, Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal and Head of the Department, Anaesthesia Department, Kakatiya Medical College. The court directed them to respond to the notices by July 28.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the Telangana government transferred the Head of the Department (HOD) of Anaesthesia on March 2 after the deceased's family alleged that the HOD did not take timely action after the incident of harassment came forth.
The medico allegedly attempted suicide by taking some injections, reportedly after being harassed by one of her seniors. She was undergoing treatment at Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) Hyderabad and unfortunately passed away on 26th February 2023. Her family alleged that she attempted suicide because of harassment by a senior doctor.
Later, the Warangal Police arrested the accused on February 24 after booking him under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Telangana Prohibition of Ragging Act.
