PGI Doctors to enumerate details of conferences outside Institute, Justify participation

Chandigarh: An order was recently passed directing the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) doctors to give details of conferences they attend outside the institute in a proforma and give reasons for their participation.
The details required to be disclosed by the doctor include the need to explain how the doctor's participation would help the work at the institute. The doctors earlier simply used to submit their request on a plain piece of paper and were not asked to give the details of the conference as well.
The letter issued read, "It is to bring to the notice of all heads of departments of the institute that the faculty members of the institute apply for national or international programme on a plain paper or letterheads without mentioning the details of conference, duty leave, source of finances to be used, request of no-objection certificate (NOC) for visa purpose, proper invitation or acceptance of letter for the purpose."
As reported in the Tribune, the order further stated, "It has now been decided by the authority that all faculty members of the institute must now apply for programme (involving no financial liability on the part of institute) in the prescribed format."
Some of the details that the doctors were required to mention included events for academic purposes to be attended, how would doctor's participation in a conference/ academic visit help in his/her work at the institute, and specific details of the source of finance (travel cost, registration fee) to be used for attending the programme along with proofs, the title of the paper to be presented with names of all authors, and copy of invitation letter/acceptance of paper/abstract for the programme.
Meanwhile, in a different incident, the Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported an incident where the health authorities pulled the anaesthetic medicine Propofol injection from the hospitals and pharmacies in Chandigarh amid allegations that it contributed to five deaths last week at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).
