PGIMS Rohtak suspends two doctors after Health Minister's inspection

Rohtak: The Pandit BD Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, has suspended a doctor from the Department of Medicine and a General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO) posted at the institute's Trauma Centre.
Additionally, a senior faculty member of the same department has also been issued a stern warning for failing to comply with instructions regarding the prescription of medicines and the maintenance of hygiene standards.
Apart from this, a General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO) posted at the Trauma Centre was also suspended on charges of allegedly uploading posts against the PGIMS administration on social media.
This decision was taken six days after a surprise inspection by Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao. During her visit, several issues were raised, including a shortage of medicines, a staff shortage at blood sample collection centres, and unsanitary conditions in the restrooms and other parts of the campus.
As per the Tribune India media news report, confirming this action, PGIMS Director Dr SK Singhal stated that these steps have been taken to strengthen the system and improve the functioning of the institute. He also acknowledged that this action was taken following the Health Minister's recent surprise visit.
“It has been observed that doctors of various departments are prescribing branded medicines, which is contrary to instructions to prescribe generic medicines. Despite repeated circulars, some doctors continue to violate these directions. This issue was viewed seriously by the Health Minister during her recent visit to the OPD,” the director stated.
He further directed that all doctors prescribe only those medicines available at the Central Dispensary. If additional medicines are required, only their generic names should be written on the OPD slips. He warned that disciplinary action would be taken against those who violate these instructions.
Meanwhile, Dr HK Agarwal, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Health Sciences, conducted a surprise inspection of various branches on Friday and examined the cleanliness conditions there.
