PGI's Oral Health Centre dentists win prestigious National Honours

PGIMER, Chandigarh
Chandigarh: The Oral Health Sciences Centre at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, PGIMER, Chandigarh, brought home multiple national honours at two prominent dental conferences held between November 28 and 30, reflecting its growing reputation in academic and research.
According to The Tribune, Professor S.P. Singh was awarded the “Outstanding Professor Award” at the Indian Orthodontic Society Conference in Visakhapatnam. Dr. SP Singh currently serves as Professor and chairman, Unit of Orthodontics, Oral Health Sciences Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh, and former Principal cum Professor, Professor & Head, Department of Orthodontics, Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Science and Hospital, Panjab University, Chandigarh. He was the past President of the Indian Society of Cleft Lip, Palate & Craniofacial Anomalies 2015-2016. He was also the past Vice President of the Indian Society of Orthodontics, 2005-2006. He completed his MDS education at the PGIMER.
At the Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry (IAPHD) National Conference in Mangaluru, Dr. Arpit Gupta, an additional professor in Public Health Dentistry, was presented with the “Mani Bhagyalakshmi IAPHD Silver Jubilee Endowment Award” for securing the highest research output in the speciality at the national level. Dr Arpit Gupta completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Subharti Dental College, India, between 2004 and 2010, followed by a Master of Dental Surgery in Public Health Dentistry from KLE Vishwanath Katti Institute of Dental Sciences during 2010–2013. He then served as a senior resident at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences from September 2013 to September 2016 at the Centre for Dental Education and Research, New Delhi. Since January 2017, he has been working as an assistant professor at the Oral Health Sciences Centre, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, where he continues to contribute to academics, research, and public health initiatives.
Dr. Nishant Mehta, associate professor in the same unit, was also recognised with the “Best Paper Award” for his innovative study on tobacco de-addiction. According to a press note, these achievements further underline the centre’s strength in clinical practice, research, and public health initiatives. Dr Nishant has an MDS in Public Health Dentistry. He is a gold medalist in his field of post-graduation. He has received various International and National awards for his scientific essay presentations, including the prestigious Richard Law Award awarded by the Global Child Dental Fund, UK.
He has also received training in Bio-statistics and Research Methodology from CMC, Vellore, and NIMHANS, Bangalore. He has been associated with tobacco control programs and activities for the past 7 years. He has many research publications in various speciality national and international journals. He has served various institutes of national importance, including the AIIMS, New Delhi, AIIMS, Bilaspur, and RIMS, Ranchi. Presently, he is working as an Assistant Professor at PGIMER, Chandigarh. Moreover, Dr. Sanjeev Verma, an additional professor in the Orthodontics unit, was re-elected to the society’s executive panel for a third straight term.
Sanchari Chattopadhyay has pursued her M.A in English and Culture Studies from the University of Burdwan, West Bengal. She likes observing cultural specificities and exploring new places.
