POGS 33rd Annual Conference Highlights Endoscopy, ART Innovations
Pune: The Pune Obstetric and Gynaecological Society (POGS) successfully hosted its 33rd Annual Conference and the 6th International Conference on Pearls and Pitfalls in Endoscopy and ART (EndoART) on December 21st and 22nd, 2024, at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Pune.
The event was organized in collaboration with various committees of the Association of Maharashtra Obstetrics and Gynaecological Societies (AMOGS).
This two-day event included keynote addresses, presentations, workshops, research paper sessions, poster competitions, and discussions led by national-level experts. The conference focused on advancements in ART techniques and endoscopic surgeries, fostering new opportunities for research and dialogue in these fields.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by several esteemed dignitaries, including Padmashri Dr. Jabbar Patel, the renowned film and theatre director, who served as the Chief Guest. Dr Patel, has deep roots in Pune’s medical community, especially at BJ Medical College and Sassoon Hospital. The event was also attended by Dr. Sunita Tandulwadkar, President-elect of the Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI), and Dr. Kiran Kurtakoti, President of AMOGS, both of whom shared their insights on the evolving landscape of obstetrics and gynecology.

Dr Jabbar Patel, a former student of BJ Medical College and Sassoon Hospital, shared his fond memories of his time at the institutions, highlighting how his education there shaped his understanding. As per the recent media report by TOI, Dr Patel stated, "I owe all my experience in cinema and theatre, especially where there are human emotions, to my teachers, my visionary college, and Sassoon Hospital. I am happy to be a part of this conference deliberating on advancements and technologies that are making women's lives safer and more comfortable."
The organizing committee, including POGS President Dr Aarti Nimkar, Hon. General Secretary Dr Meenakshi Deshpande, Former President of POGS and Convenor of ENDOART 2024 Dr. Meenu Agarwal, and Clinical Secretary of POGS and Convener of ENDOART 2024 Dr. Amol Lunkad, along with other dignitaries, were present at the event.
Dr Aarti Nimkar, President of POGS, expressed her excitement about the 33rd Annual Conference, highlighting that it was designed to enrich members with the latest scientific knowledge and advanced techniques through a range of workshops and sessions. She further added that this conference also serves as a platform to share clinical expertise and seek solutions to practical challenges.
According to TOI, Dr Sunita Tandulwadkar, President-elect of FOGSI, said that through obstetrics and gynecology, we should strive for women's health. She stated, "We will reach out to the younger generation through outreach programs to get them into the POGS and FOGSI and serve society."
Dr. Kiran Kurtakoti, President of the Association of Maharashtra Obstetrics and Gynaecological Societies (AMOGS), discussed the tremendous evolution of obstetrics and gynecology over the years. He highlighted that in the past, there was no concept of super-specialties, and the field was primarily limited to general gynecology. However, today, it has branched into 3-4 super-specialties, including IVF, Fetal Medicine, and Cosmetic Gynaecology.
Dr. Meenu Agarwal, Convenor of ENDOART 2024, said that this is the first time we are having the annual conference on a specific topic of EndoART. The workshops included topics like imaging science, cosmetic gynecology, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, embryology, combination induction, and self-defense techniques.

One of the major highlights of the conference was the presentation of awards recognizing outstanding contributions to the field of obstetrics and gynecology. The prestigious POGS Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Dr. Dilip Kamat, a senior veteran, for his selfless dedication and lifelong contributions to the medical community.
In addition, the ENDOART Awards were given to Dr. Prashant Mangeshikar from Mumbai and Dr. Mamata Deendayal from Hyderabad for their exceptional work in the field of ART and endoscopy. Several other distinguished doctors, including Dr. Ashish Kale, Dr. Amol Lunkad, Dr. Meenakshi Deshpande, Dr. Uma Wankhede, Dr. Kanchan Durugkar, and Dr. Mangala Wani, were also felicitated for their significant contributions to obstetrics and gynecology.
Furthermore, the periodical newsletter of POGS, Speculum, was released during the ceremony, adding another layer of engagement for members of the society and further encouraging the exchange of ideas and knowledge
