Kondhwa: In a distressing incident, a senior doctor from Pune was defrauded of Rs 5.38 crore along with other valuable items with sweet talks of religious teachings and promises of spiritual merit by four fraudsters.
Falling victim to the fraudulent scheme, the doctor lost 11 reward certificates for properties and substantial assets, including cash and gold items, worth a staggering amount of Rs 5 crore 37 lakh 90 thousand.
Consequently, the four accused have been booked under sections 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in this regard.

As per the Punekar News report, the alleged fraud dates back to October 17, 2018, when the four accused developed a close relationship with the doctor and gradually persuaded him with sweet words and religious teachings, promising greater spiritual attainment and heavenly rewards.
For the last 5 years and 6 months, the fraudsters duped the doctor and managed to obtain 11 reward letters for different properties and unlawfully acquired various assets, including cash and gold items, for their financial gain.
However, the incident came to light on April 11 when the doctor realised the extent of the fraud and filed a complaint at the Kondhwa Police Station against the fraudsters.
According to the police, the accused refused to return the unlawfully acquired assets despite the doctor's demands resulting in the registration of the case.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
