Punjab: Doctor booked after wife allegedly harassed for dowry burns self to death
Ludhiana: A doctor and his family members were recently booked for allegedly harassing his wife for dowry, who set herself on fire and succumbed to burn injuries on Tuesday morning.
The deceased woman married the doctor almost 3 years ago and the couple had a baby girl. On Monday night the woman allegedly set herself on fire after which she was taken to the nearby hospital. However, she could not be saved and succumbed to her burn injuries on Tuesday morning.
As per various media accounts, the father of the victim alleged that a day before the incident, the doctor had called him and stated that if he do not take the woman back home, she would be killed.
The father who lived in Samrala, about 30 kilometres away from her in-laws' house in Kakowal Majra village, then called the village sarpanch requesting him to ensure her safety. However, the sarpanch assured him that she would be in a good health and also suggested that he should visit the in-laws the very next morning.
