Rajasthan scraps mandatory 2-year bond service for PG doctors joining govt jobs

Jaipur: Announcing a relaxation in the bond conditions for post-graduate medical students, the Rajasthan Medical Education Department has decided to provide an exemption to the bond service candidates to those joining Central or State Government service.
Such candidates, who after completing their post-graduate studies will secure Centre or State Government jobs, will be exempted from the previously mandatory two-year service requirement, TOI has reported.
The order in this regard was issued by the State Medical Education Department on December 1. It states that while the PG and super-speciality candidates in Rajasthan are bound by a two-year service bond, if these candidates get selected for positions within the Central or State Government, or institutes fully or partially authorised by them, the bond conditions will no longer apply to them.
Exemption granted for such PG medicos is in line with the Rajasthan Service Rules, which allow such flexibility. After securing the State/Centre Government jobs, the eligible candidates will be granted an NOC (No Objection Certificate), and they will be permitted for such exemption. As per the latest media report by the Times of India, this change in the bond service policy has been made effective on an immediate basis.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that earlier this year, the State Medical Education Department made it compulsory for the doctors completing PG degrees and super-speciality programs from Rajasthan Government or Rajasthan Medical Education Society (RajMES) medical colleges to serve at medical college-affiliated hospitals for two years.
In this regard, the Rajasthan Medical Education Department had issued an order specifying the guidelines on counselling. At the time of admission to the PG and super-speciality courses, the students must submit a service bond of Rs 25 lakh with an assurance to serve the State for two years, the order had mentioned.
However, recently, the the Rajasthan Medical Education Department announced the implementation of a new bond policy in all government medical colleges run under the Government and Rajasthan Medical Education Society (RajMES) from the academic session 2025-2026.
Under this bond system, the medical students pursuing postgraduation (PG) will have to submit a service bond undertaking of Rs 25 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore at the time of admission, depending on their specialities. They will have to pay the bond amount if they do not wish to serve in the State Government hospitals for two years after completing their course. The amount of bond was determined based on a category-wise list covering 27 PG specialities, divided into four categories.
