Rajkot police arrest man for allegedly posing as doctor after 15 years as compounder

Rajkot: In a move to curb the growing menace of unqualified individuals practising medicine, Malaviyanagar police have arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly running a clinic and treating patients without possessing a valid medical degree.

The accused was allegedly administering medicines to patients at a private clinic on Gondal Road in Rajkot despite having no recognised medical qualification.

According to the police, the investigation further revealed that the accused had worked as a compounder at various hospitals in Rajkot for around 15 to 17 years before allegedly posing as a doctor and opening his own clinic, reports The Daily.

According to officials, Malaviyanagar Police received information that a person without the required medical qualifications was treating patients at Shiv Clinic.

Acting on the tip-off, a police team raided the clinic on the evening of August 8. During the raid, officers asked the person present at the clinic to identify himself and produce certificates or documents proving his medical qualifications. However, according to police, he failed to produce any medical degree certificate.

Following the raid, police arrested the accused and seized medicines and medical equipment worth Rs 16,484 from the clinic. During subsequent questioning, the accused allegedly admitted that he had been practising medicine illegally for approximately six months, police said.

The accused also told police that he had previously worked as a compounder at various hospitals in Rajkot city for 15–17 years. He then allegedly started posing as a doctor and opened his own clinic. Police have now arrested him and initiated legal proceedings against him, reports Bhaskar English.

The investigation will determine the full extent of his alleged activities and whether any other individuals were involved in operating the clinic.

Medical Dialogues had recently reported that a man has been arrested in Gujarat’s Valsad district for allegedly practising allopathic medicine without holding a recognised medical qualification, amid concerns over unqualified medical practitioners operating across the state.
