Rajkot Woman doctor kills self with overdose of anaesthesia

Rajkot: In a tragic incident, a female doctor working at a hospital in Rajkot allegedly committed suicide by injecting herself with an anaesthesia drug that led to an overdose. The doctor died on May 24 after battling for three days in the hospital.

Police investigating the case found that a recent financial fraud played a role in her suicide. Just a few days before the doctor took the fatal step, she and her husband were cheated out of Rs 5 lakh in a fake gold deal.

Even though no suicide note was recovered, the police discovered that the 27-year-old doctor was in mental shock after she was cheated and lost the money. Four individuals who deceived her by promising gold at a cheap price have been arrested.

According to latest media report by Sandesh, the arrested individuals are reported to be members of the notorious "Vandari Gang," while three others, including two women, remain at large. A manhunt has been launched for these three accused.

During the investigation, the police found a stockpile of fake gold and silver in their possession, Rs 2.15 lakh in cash, an auto-rickshaw, and two mobile phones. They have seized the items.

As per the Indian Express news report, the incident took place after the deceased doctor's husband, Dhaval Moliya, also a doctor who runs a clinic in Ronki village near Rajkot, told the police that on May 15, a man claiming to be a labourer visited his clinic. After getting examined and treated, the man said he and his friends had found gold jewellery and silver coins at an excavation site near Gondal Chowkdi where they worked. He offered to sell the jewellery for a lower price.

The man introduced Dhaval to two other people near the Civil Hospital. They showed him the jewellery, which weighed about 1kg and allowed the doctor to test a small piece at a jewellery shop. The test confirmed it was 18-carat gold.

Convinced the deal was genuine, Dhaval and the deceased went to Chotila on May 17 to hand over Rs 5 lakh in cash and collect the jewellery. But when they returned and got it tested, they were shocked to learn it was fake.

The people involved, identified as Ramesh and his two aides, went missing after taking the money. Dhaval remained silent about the fraud initially, but later filed a police complaint on May 26 at the Gandhigram police station.
