Renowned Assam Surgeon Dr Sumakanta Shyam passes away at 78

Distinguished Surgeon Dr. Sumakanta Shyam Passes Away
Doomdooma: A distinguished figure in Assam's medical community, Dr Sumakanta Shyam, passed away at his residence on Azad Road on Wednesday night. He was 78 years old and had been bedridden for the past few years following a stroke. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
Dr Shyam was born on September 21, 1947, in Raja Pukhuri Turing village of Sarupathar in Golaghat district. After completing his MBBS and MS in General Surgery from Assam Medical College, he began his medical career at the hospital of Brahmaputra Valley Fertiliser Corporation Limited (BVFCL) in Namrup. Later, he took voluntary retirement and joined Dr CD Borah’s nursing home as a surgeon in 1989. Eventually, he established his own practice and served as a consulting surgeon in various nursing homes in and around Doomdooma.
