Retired Doctor cheated of Rs 11.54 lakh with promise of job in Gulf
The doctor told the police, "I paid a total of Rs 11.54 lakh to the accused through multiple transactions, but after taking the money, they stopped taking my calls." However, the accused trio has not been arrested by the police so far.
Mohali: A city-based retired doctor has approached the Mullanpur police station after he was duped of Rs 11.54 lakh by three persons through an online employment portal on the pretext of getting him a job in the Gulf.
The complaint was registered by a retired doctor from the health department on August 25, alleging that some people cheated him after he registered for a job on an online employment portal in January this year, said the police.

The police found three persons to be responsible for it. They registered a case against Suraj, Shweta, and their another accomplice Karan, a relationship manager under Sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) based on the doctor's complaint.
The doctor told the police that after registering at the portal, he received a call from a man claiming to be Suraj, the HR manager of the portal, who gave the doctor a mobile number of a woman, who claimed to be another employee of the portal. The doctor said the woman introduced herself as Shweta, who informed the doctor about a vacant post of medical superintendent available in a Gulf country, reports the Indian Express.
The woman asked the doctor to transfer them some money so that they could make some necessary arrangements for him. The doctor told the police, "I paid a total of Rs 11.54 lakh to the accused through multiple transactions, but after taking the money, they stopped taking my calls." However, the accused trio has not been arrested by the police so far.
Meanwhile, in a similar case of cyber fraud reported from Mangaluru, the Medical Dialogues team had reported a case of cheating where a doctor had been duped of Rs 60000 by an online fraudster who tricked the former into sharing his credit card information. The doctor, who believed the fraudster, gave his credit card information and shared the OTP, after which a sum of Rs 60,000wasn debited from his account.
