Revise Stipend as per NMC Rules: Gujarat Resident doctors urge Authorities
Ahmedabad: The resident doctors pursuing postgraduate medical courses at the Government medical colleges in Gujarat have recently urged the authorities to grant them stipends in compliance with the National Medical Commission (NMC) rules.
Raising their demands in this regard, the Junior Doctors' Association recently handed over a memorandum to the director of PG studies at the Civil Hospital, reports TOI.
Currently, the PG medical students in the State get Rs 84,000 as a monthly stipend. According to the existing rules, the amount of the stipend should be increased every three years.
As per the latest media report by the Times of India, in the memorandum, that the PG medicos submitted to the authorities, the doctors referred to the fact that the Gujarat government has also passed a resolution in this regard. Despite this, the doctors alleged that the last time their stipend was revised was back in 2021 and the revision of the stipend was due this month.
The Daily adds that back in January, 2024, the NBEMS had written to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare urging it to issue directions to GMERS Valsad to start paying the first and second-year trainees of post-MBBS diploma course the same amount of stipend fixed for MD, MS and DNB trainees.
However, sources informed the Daily that despite the instructions issued by NBEMS, the college was not complying with the directions.
Last year in February, NBEMS had written to the Ministry and informed that the Board had received similar complaints from the post-MBBS diploma students in Gujarat in this regard.
The State Health Department had fixed the stipend for the first and second-year trainees of post-MBBS diploma course at Rs 63,000-Rs 68,000 per month back in the year 2021. However, the department had fixed the stipend for the students pursuing MD, MS and DNB courses at Rs 84,000 to Rs 85,000 per month.
