Robbery at PGI doctor's Residence: Cash, Jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh stolen
Chandigarh: The residence of an associate professor at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh became the recent target of robbery after some unknown burglars looted cash and jewellery worth over Rs 3 lakh. An FIR has been filed in connection with the incident.
Although the doctor identified as Dr Amit Arora, regularly kept an eye on his residence, however, the robbery occurred while the house was locked and went unchecked for two days during the absence of both him and his mother.

The theft came to light on Thursday evening when Dr Amit Arora, visited the house after a two-day gap and found the front door's lock broken. Dr Arora, who usually checked the house after work, had not done so for two days. When he arrived at his house around 4:30 pm on December 19, he found the bedroom door and the inside of a wooden cupboard had been forced open. He also discovered that clothes and jewellery boxes were scattered across the floor.
As per an HT news report, Dr Arora lives with his family in Sector 11-B and the house in Sector 11-A where the robbery happened was used by his mother. Her mother lived alone in the house but she had been in Dera Beas since December 12 leaving the house locked.
Explaining the situation, Dr Arora said, "I immediately video-called my mother to inform her about the situation. During the call, she identified the stolen items, which included a gold bracelet, Gillibrand, pendant, chain, two pairs of earrings, and Rs 25,000 cash. These items, gifted by my grandmother, hold great sentimental value."
After informing his mother and confirming the stolen items, the doctor approached the police. Upon receiving the intel, the police went to his house including a mobile forensic unit and inspected the scene.
Following this, the doctor filed a complaint against the unknown robbers and a case was registered under Section 305(a) BNS (theft in a dwelling house) accordingly. An investigation is underway to identify the robbers.
