Rs 30 lakh Heist at Delhi doctor's home: Law student, 2 others arrested

Robbery
New Delhi: In a well-planned heist, three women, including a 27-year-old law student, have been arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 30 lakh in cash and a mobile phone from a doctor's house in northwest Delhi. The theft was committed just two days after one of the accused joined the household as a live-in maid using a fake identity.
Among the three accused, the law student is reported to be the mastermind who planted her friend at the doctor's as a domestic help to rob the house. The robbery happened when the doctor was not at home. At the time, the accused called her two friends (accomplices), looted the house and fled. After being arrested, they confessed to the police that they were best friends and needed money to pay to secure a job.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh, the incident came to light on June 12 when Dr Anil Raheja reported a theft from his residence. He told the police that the newly hired maid and her associates had fled with a large sum of cash and a mobile phone.
Investigations revealed that the maid, who identified herself as "Tanveer Kaur", was actually a 19-year-old named Shilpi. She had used a forged identity card to get hired through a domestic help agency.
Police said Shilpi’s hiring was part of a pre-planned crime organised by Rajni, a 27-year-old law student. Rajni had conspired with Shilpi and another woman, 25-year-old Neha Samalty, to execute the theft.
According to a TOI report, Shilpi had prior experience working as a maid, which helped in executing the plan. The group began searching for maid jobs online, and Rajni was the one who created the fake identity documents for Shilpi.
To nab and identify the accused, the police reviewed the CCTV footage and conducted technical surveillance to trace Shilpi and Rajni to Meerut. Following this, a raid was conducted, leading to their arrest.
Shilpi was found with Rs 10.07 lakh in cash, an empty mobile phone box and mobile accessories, while Rajni was caught with Rs 12.5 lakh and the stolen mobile phone.
"Rajni, who is currently studying law, planned the entire crime with Shilpi and another accomplice, Neha Samalty, who was later arrested from Saharanpur," an officer told PTI.
Both confessed to their involvement in the theft and disclosed Neha's name. They said that a portion of the stolen amount was given to her. Based on their interrogation, Neha was later arrested in Saharanpur, and police recovered Rs 50,000 and a mobile phone used in the crime from her.
Preliminary investigation suggests this was the first time all three women were involved in a crime. Investigators believe they were lured by the idea of making quick money.
A case has been registered under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with theft by a servant. Police are continuing their investigation to verify if the accused was involved in any other similar cases.
