Surat doctor hangs self at residence, cops suspect depression
Surat: In an unfortunate incident, a young doctor undergoing his internship at a Civil Hospital allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan at his home in Surat’s Adajan area in Gujarat.
According to the police, the doctor was suffering from mental health issues after losing his mother seven months ago. He was undergoing treatment and was taking medication for it. The cops suspect that he might have fallen into depression after his mother's death.
The 25-year-old doctor who lost both his parents used to visit his aunt's house regularly for meals. However, on September 2, he failed to appear for lunch at his aunt's house. Following this, his aunt tried to reach him by phone but received no response.

The incident came to light when she went to his house at about 2.30 pm and sought assistance from one of the neighbours as his doors were locked from inside. After the neighbour climbed onto the balcony and entered his room, he found him hanging from the ceiling.
Later, the police were informed who sent his body for postmortem and conducted a preliminary investigation.
Speaking to Republic World, police said, “His aunt tried to reach him by phone. On getting no response, she went to his residence about 2:30 pm. When he did not answer the door, she asked neighbours for help, and one of them managed to enter the bedroom by climbing onto the balcony. Chandani was found hanging from the fan hook,” police said. “He was found dead on the first floor of his house,” added the police.
“We asked friends and family members about Chandani and learned that he was a calm and sober man. He had been taking medicine for mental health issues. He lost his father when he was a child. His mother died seven months ago. It is possible he slipped into depression after his mother’s death,” police told TOI.
