Telangana doctors flag lateral entry preference in DME assistant professor recruitment

Hyderabad: Doctors in Telangana have raised serious concerns over the alleged preference for lateral entry over direct recruitment of assistant professors under the Directorate of Medical Education (DME).
A representation submitted to DME Dr A Narendra Kumar has urged authorities to strictly follow the recruitment procedure outlined in Government Order (GO) No. 154.

The aspirants also cited a ruling by the Telangana high court, which clearly directed that recruitment should be carried out in a sequential (seriatim) manner as prescribed in the GO, and not in reverse. Highlighting the importance of maintaining fairness and transparency, the doctors said any deviation from the prescribed sequence could adversely impact eligible candidates and disturb the balance intended under the rules, reports TOI.
The aspirants have demanded that direct recruitment be completed first, followed strictly by lateral entry and other categories as per the government order. They have also warned that deviation from established norms and judicial directions may lead to legal complications and further delays in filling teaching vacancies in medical institutions.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that questions have been raised about the fairness of the recruitment process for assistant professor posts across various medical colleges in the state, following the inclusion of several doctors linked to the North Bengal lobby in the merit list, while many who protested the RG Kar incident were left out.
