Telangana revokes Suspension of Medical Superintendent after doctors protest

Suspension Revoked
Hyderabad: The Telangana Health Department has decided to revoke the suspension of the in-charge Medical Superintendent of Zaheerabad Area Hospital. The decision comes just two days after his suspension triggered widespread backlash from government doctors and political leaders.
The Superintendent was suspended after a viral video surfaced, showing doctors attending to patients using mobile phone torches during a power outage at Zaheerabad Area Hospital. The footage, which quickly gained traction on social media, was shared by BRS leader and former health minister T Harish Rao.
Medical Dialogues recently reported that a shocking video showing patients being treated under mobile phone flashlights during a power outage at the emergency ward of the Government Area Hospital in Zaheerabad went viral on social media. The video, which surfaced on Sunday, shows doctors and medical staff providing emergency care in the dark, using mobile phone torches for light while patients lie on beds. The incident occurred when the hospital staff failed to activate the backup generator on time, despite the hospital seeing a footfall of over 300 patients daily.
The decision to revoke the suspension was made during a meeting held on Monday between the Health Minister and representatives of the Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGGDA). During the meeting, the TGGDA delegation reportedly outlined the infrastructural deficiencies affecting not only the area hospital but also other government-run health facilities. They appealed for a reconsideration of the suspension, prompting the minister to agree to revoke it.

According to TOI, a day earlier, TGGDA condemned the suspension, stating that the situation was not a case of negligence but a reflection of infrastructural limitations. The doctors' body also called for a comprehensive infrastructure audit of all government hospitals in the state.
