TN: Woman posing as doctor arrested for duping travel agent of Rs 5000
Tanjavur: The Tanjavur South Police have arrested a woman posing as a doctor after the latter duped a travel agent of Rs 5000 on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as 30-year-old Nishanthini from Peravurani who approached the 35-year-old travel agent, Yogaraj from Thanjavur. She told him that she is a doctor and requested him to lend his car so that she could go to Chennai.
He took her by cab to Thanjavur Medical College, where she asked Yogaraj to stop the car and wait for her since she had to visit a relative undergoing treatment there.
She further asked him to pay Rs 5000 which she promised to return after reaching Chennai after which he gave her the money.
However, Nishanthini did not come back. Yogaraj was waiting for her within the premises of the medical college, reports the DTNext. He could not find her after searching for a long time as well.
Yogaraj filed a complaint with the Thanjavur South police, following which the latter registered a case against her and began their investigation. The investigation revealed that she was not a doctor and was involved in a number of fraud cases across the Thanjavur and Tiruchy districts. The police are currently investigating the issue further.
In another news from Tamil Nadu, the Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about the arrest of a fake doctor for allegedly administering an injection to a 13-year-old boy suffering from fever who died from severe stomach pain within a few hours in Vaniyambadi town. The police discovered the quackery while investigating the boy's death case. The police arrested him after securing substantial evidence about the crimes of the fake doctor.
