Tragic: Doctor, 3 others killed after being hit by speeding truck in Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar: In a tragic incident, a 55-year-old doctor among four died in a road accident while five others sustained severe injuries after a speeding truck hit them at a bus stand in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district on Wednesday evening.

The truck is alleged to be a cement-laden truck that collided with a motorcycle rider before crashing into a shop and overturning. The rider was allegedly knocked down by the truck and three persons including the doctor were crushed to death after the vehicle overturned on the Delhi-Saharanpur Highway.

Among them, there was a doctor who was identified as Dr Omveer Malik.

According to a PTI report, the accident took place on the Delhi-Saharanpur highway in Khandala when the truck was trying to escape after hitting one person. However, the vehicle rammed into a roadside shop and overturned, injuring several people, the police said.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Shamli, Santosh Kumar Singh told The Indian Express, “The injured persons have been admitted to a local hospital."

Following the accident, a police team rushed to the spot after being informed about the incident and started a rescue operation. While one person died after being hit by the truck, three bodies were retrieved from under the vehicle, said SP Abhishek.

The five injured victims were shifted to hospital, the SP said, adding that the police seized the truck and efforts are on to capture the driver who managed to flee after the accident.

Further, a case has been registered and a probe is underway.
