Tragic road accident claims lives of 2 Young doctors

Visakhapatnam: In a deeply disturbing incident, two young doctors in their 20s serving at the Indian Naval Hospital, Kalyani, lost their lives in a road accident on the spot after a truck from behind ran over them while they were attempting to overtake it and a car.

The victims have been identified as a 25-year-old Surg. Lt. Soumya Satish Asati from Maharashtra and 26-year-old Lt. Megha Rawat from Delhi. Soumya was working as a Primary Medical Officer onboard INS Delhi, while Megha was part of the Military Nursing Service and posted at Indian Naval Hospital Ship (INHS) Kalyani in Vizag.

The tragic accident took place on the flyover near Essar Company under Harbour police station limits in Vizag city on Saturday at around 4.30 pm.

According to the police, the two were riding a bike from Sheela Nagar towards Convent Junction. Soumya was driving the bike when she reportedly lost control while trying to overtake a lorry and a car. Both fell off the bike and were run over by a truck coming from behind. They died on the spot.

As per a TOI report, the police stated that their preliminary investigation revealed that this is a clear case of an accident due to non-adherence to road discipline. According to officials, the bike rider was primarily at fault. The police have registered a case, and their bodies were shifted to a hospital for postmortem.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported about a fatal accident where a female BAMS intern from Jai Prakash Hospital lost her life while returning home on her scooter. She was waiting at a traffic intersection at Bhanpur Crossing when a speeding school bus rammed into her from behind. She became trapped in the front section of the bus and was dragged for nearly 50 feet, resulting in her death on the spot.

The out-of-control school bus didn’t stop there; it went on to collide with at least half a dozen vehicles, including a car, at a traffic signal in the busy Bhanganga Square area of Bhopal. The accident left the young doctor dead and six others injured, two of whom are reported to be in critical condition.
