Trainee doctors attacked by miscreants at Mandi Medical College, One sustains hand injury
Mandi: In an alleged case of violence against medical professionals at Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital Nerchowk in Mandi, a group of unknown outsiders entered the campus and allegedly attacked several trainee doctors on Saturday night, resulting in injuries to a trainee doctor.
According to the police, the trainee doctor suffered injuries in his hand during the incident. It was reported that the assailants in two cars managed to enter the campus posing as patients and fooling the security guards stationed at the main gate. When the trainee doctors asked them why they were roaming, they attacked the doctors and fled away from the campus.

Till now, six accused have been arrested by the police in connection to this case after a case was registered under relevant sections of IPC based on the complaint of the victim doctors, as reported by the News Himachal.
Sakshi Verma, SP Mandi told ANI, " Yesterday night Bahl PS received the information that some outsiders came inside the hospital campus and they had a confrontation with trainee doctors. Police rounded up the trespassers and a probe is underway. One doctor sustained injuries"
The incident took place on Saturday night when some trainee doctors, who were on night duty, were taking a break and walking outside the hospital and college premises. During their break, they witnessed a few men roaming inside the campus which made the doctor suspicious. The doctors then confronted them and asked about their purpose for entering the hospital. Not responding to the question, the outsider attacked the doctors.
During the confrontation, the attackers allegedly brutally assaulted one trainee doctor who suffered injuries on his hand and even issued death threats to them. As the situation escalated and the doctors had no option to defend themselves, they escaped from the spot but managed to capture one or two of the attackers.
In retaliation, the doctors damaged the two cars of the attackers around 12.30 am and informed faculty members and the principal about the incident. By the time, the principal arrived at the campus, many of the attackers had already escaped. Following this, the police were informed and around three police teams rushed to the hospital after receiving the information.
Speaking to The Indian Express, DSP (headquarters) Dev Raj said, “Some outsiders in two vehicles entered the medical college and hospital premises without any apparent reason. They began roaming around unnecessarily, raising suspicion among the trainee doctors about their intentions. When a few trainee doctors questioned their purpose for entering the hospital, the outsiders attacked them. Security guards were present and intervened, but the clash escalated. At least three police teams rushed to the hospital after receiving the information. The situation is now under control, and some suspects have been detained for questioning.”
“It was around 12.40 am when the trainee doctors informed me about the clash. I rushed to the scene. By that time, many of the outsiders had managed to escape. Security guards and students had apprehended one or two suspects. We have two entrance gates, one for the hospital and another for the college. The outsiders had entered through one of the gates and reached the area between the college and the hospital. The purpose of their entry into the institute is a matter of investigation. Work is ongoing at the hospital. I remained on the scene until 3.30 am," said Principal Dr DK Verma.
