Transfer of doctors in teaching hospitals: Telangana Govt issues guidelines
Hyderabad: In a move towards improving the healthcare sector in Telangana, doctors working in government teaching hospitals can now get transferred between hospitals based on their qualifications and experience.
In a Government Order (GO) issued by the Telangana Medical and Health Department on May 2, various guidelines have been released for General transfers of Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors working under the administrative control of Director of Medical Education (DME).
As per the orders issued by health secretary S.A.M Rizvi, the transfers shall be effected only to clear vacancies; employees who have completed two years of service in a station are eligible for transfer. In the case of employees who have to give an application to DME requesting for transfer, counselling shall be held for effecting transfers.

The order calls for a celebration for doctors who have been waiting to get transferred to another hospital but were on hold for a long period. In addition to providing relief for these doctors, this will also give them the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge to better serve the people of Telangana.
Sharing the Government order on Twitter, Health Minister Harish Rao said, "In a good news to doctors at Government teaching hospitals. Medical & health department released guidelines for General transfers of Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors working under the administrative control of Director of Medical Education."
Health Minister T Harish Rao informed Hans India, "Our government is committed to providing the best healthcare services to people of Telangana. Making Arogya Telangana is a significant step towards achieving this goal. We are working hard to make it a reality. The issuance of the guidelines is seen a step in the right direction and will go a long way in improving the healthcare system in the State."
"This decision is expected to provide better career opportunities for teaching hospital doctors and improve the healthcare system in the State. The government efforts towards the betterment of the healthcare sector in Telangana are commendable. This move is a testament to their commitment towards providing quality healthcare services to people," adds the minister.
Only vacancies of (17) newly established medical colleges shall be displayed for exercising options during counselling to the extent required for strengthening patient services/meeting NMC guidelines for LoP/ 1st renewal, the order stated.
If applications seeking transfer are more than the vacancies available in the above (17) medical colleges, then the vacancies of government medical colleges Suryapet, Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar, Siddipet and RIMS Adilabad may also be displayed.
In no case, the vacancies of Osmania Medical College, Gandhi Medical College, Kakatiya Medical College, or Government Medical College Nizamabad shall be displayed during counselling.
Once transfers are effected on personal or medical grounds, the Head of the Department will get the truthfulness of the grounds verified. Transfers under the provisions of these orders shall be completed within one month from the date of issue of these orders.
